A Picture of Compassion

While there are many different definitions of compassion, one is “the quivering of the heart in response to suffering or pain.” In contrast to empathy, compassion involves an action to move toward suffering. Compassionate action does not stand at a distance or become overwhelmed by the suffering. Compassionate action strikes a balance between under and over involvement.
