Dr. Kathleen Benton is the President and CEO for a local Savannah area hospice and palliative care organization. Prior to this appointment she served as the Director of Ethics and Palliative Care at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital for over a decade.
Kathleen earned her doctorate in public health leadership from Georgia Southern University, her Masters in Bioethics from Case Western Reserve University and her undergraduate degree in Political Science and Communications from Furman University.
Dr. Benton has been the reviewer for numerous peer reviewed journals. She is also published in The Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, “The Ottawa Citizen Newspaper”, Health Progress and is the author of two books The Skill of End-of-Life Communication for Clinicians, published recently by Springer and Daniel’s World, a children’s book that focuses on acceptance of children with disabilities. She is currently working on a book with international authors and the Vatican on palliative Care, dignity and spirituality - planned for publication by Routledge at the end of 2019.
Always civic minded, she sits on the boards of the Daniel DeLoach Memorial Fund and the Proteus Syndrome Foundation.
Dr. Benton resides in Savannah with her husband and three children. In addition to caring for them she also provided support to her parents as they cared for her brother who underwent 110 surgeries and thousands of hospitalizations living with the same disease as the Elephant Man, until his death January 2017.
