The art of being present

Psychologist and former Trappist monk James Finley talks about the unique art of being present to ourselves and to others.

For reflection alone or together:

Finley describes his practice of being present to others by beginning with an interior pause to be present to himself.

What practices help you become more present to yourself as you prepare to meet with patients/family members?

What practices or habits to you practice that may distance you from yourself or others like the "clipboard" or "checklist" Finley mentions?

Next week: Pause, presence, proceed
